QUICK WIN: The 3-Signal Instagram Strategy That Makes Your Content Actually Work
You’ve been posting on Instagram. Maybe consistently. Maybe with great photos. But the reach? The engagement? It feels like you’re shouting into a void.
Here’s what changed: Instagram isn’t rewarding pretty posts anymore. It’s rewarding posts that people actually interact and engage with. And there are three specific signals that tell Instagram your content is worth showing to more people.
Earlier this month at the Dear FoundHer… Live networking event, we discussed these three strategies and so much more. Our conversation generated so many questions, I wanted to put the information I shared into The FoundHer Files just for you. Over the next two weeks, we’ll cover the advice and information I shared about Instagram and LinkedIn and some of the changes you are going to want to adapt to for 2026.
The information I shared is already shifting how our community approaches their content. Let me break it down for you.
Why Your Current Strategy Isn’t Working
Instagram is no longer about how many likes you get or how many followers you have. The platform is now laser-focused on three things:
• Is your content valuable enough that people want to save it?
• Is it share-worthy enough that people send it to friends?
• Does it spark real conversation in the comments and DMs?
If you’re getting likes but not these three signals, Instagram thinks your content is nice but not valuable. And it won’t push it to new potential followers.
The 3-Signal Strategy (Your Quick Win for This Week)
Here’s what to do differently starting today:
Signal #1: Create Save-Worthy Content
People save posts they want to reference later. Think: tutorials, checklists, resource lists, step-by-step guides.
Your action this week: Create one carousel post (5-7 slides) that teaches something specific.
The formula for any niche:
1. Process breakdowns: How to [achieve specific result] in [timeframe]
2. Checklists: The [Number] Things You Need Before [Goal/Event]
3. Template/Scripts: Copy These [Number] [Thing] Word-for-Word
4. Resource lists: My Go-To [Resources] for [Specific Need]
5. Framework/System: The [Name] Method for [Result]
6. Common mistakes + fixes: [Number] Mistakes You’re Making with [Thing] (And How to Fix Them)
7. Before/After comparisons: How I Went from [Bad State] to [Good State]
The pattern that works in every niche: Make it specific (not “social media tips” but “5 Instagram captions that drive DMs”), actionable (they can use it right now), and complete (they don’t need to buy anything else to implement it). You want to give them the steps that they can take to do something right now.
And then ask yourself: Would I screenshot this and come back to it next week? If yes, it’s save-worthy.
Signal #2: Make Your Content Share-Worthy
People share posts that make them look good, help their friends, or that they identify with. The test: Would your ideal client reshare this to someone they know?
I’ve been sharing a lot of bold statements on Instagram, like this one. What I’m finding is that my ideal customer identifies with these statements and shares them with their communities. They are driving a TON of shares, engagement and are driving many new followers and eyeballs on my account.
Your action this week: Find a quote or a saying that your target community would really identify with. Is it something you would share? Ask yourself that. Post a simple graphic with the quote or saying.
Signal #3: Spark Real Conversation
Instagram wants to see meaningful conversation and comments, not just emoji reactions. You need to ask questions that require thoughtful answers.
Your action this week: End every post with a question that requires more than a yes/no answer. Try these:
• “What’s your #1 struggle with [topic] right now?”
• “Which of these resonates most with you and why?”
• “Tell me: A or B, and what’s your reasoning?”
Then, and this is crucial, reply to every single comment. Instagram tracks those conversations. Similarly, make sure that you respond to all of your DMs as well. Meta is tracking your conversations there as well.
Your Action Plan for the Next 7 Days
Here’s how to implement this week:
• Monday: Create one save-worthy carousel post
• Wednesday: Post one share-worthy quote or saying
• Friday: Share a post with a conversation-starter question
• Daily: Reply to every comment within 2 hours of posting
• Daily: Post one Story with a question box or poll
Why This Works
Instagram is rewarding content that keeps people on the platform. When your posts generate saves, shares, and real conversations, you’re telling Instagram: “This content is valuable. Show it to more people.”
You don’t need to go viral. You need to create content worth interacting with. That’s the difference between being seen and being scrolled past.
Try this strategy for the next week and watch what happens to your reach and engagement. This is exactly what’s working for my me right now, as well as many in our community. And it can work for you too.
